  4. Mary's Spring

  5. Sorek River

  6. Israel National Trail

  7. Sataf

We will begin the morning with freshly brewed coffee overlooking the rolling Judean hills. While we take a moment to connect with nature, we will explore the biblical history of the borders of Jerusalem and witness proof of a flourishing agricultural landscape during the times of the Second Temple, 2000 years ago.

The hike will begin at Tzomet Ora (Ora Junction), walking 1.5 km (0.9 miles) towards Hadassah Ein Karem, a relatively new Tayelet (promenade) looking over the village and the famous Russian Gornenskiy Monastery.

We will follow the trail past the last three villages still standing from the Ottoman Empire (1517-1917) until we reach Hadassah Hospital and then walking a further 1.5 km (0.9 miles) on the Blue Trail towards Mary's Spring, also known as the Fountain of the Virgin.

The trail continues into the Valley down towards the Sorek River at which point we enter the famous Israel National Trail - Shvil Yisrael (Blue, Yellow, White Trail). This path will take us another 4km (2.5 miles) until we reach the stairs to Sataf which has the oldest traces of agriculture in the region established 5,500 years ago during the Chalcolithic Period.

Our route ends with a challenging climb up to the natural springs.
