Tour  Summary

Shuk Machane Yehuda, a cultural experience of taste and smell for your palette. This tour will take us through 100 years of rich culinary history while enjoying delicious foods from around the world.

The story of the Shuk starts at the end of the 19th century when Jews from around the world (primarily Europe) started migrating to the Holy Land. The Jerusalem neighborhood of Nachlaot, adjacent to the Shuk, was established and the Ottoman farmers took the opportunity to profit from the influx of immigrants to create a makeshift outdoor market. Only 40 years later the market was shut down by the British due to sanitary issues. With the bare minimum of renovations, such as the installation of street gutters, and a verbal promise to wash the floor regularly, it was opened again by the British.

This tour will take us through the bright and vibrant market tasting the variations on traditional Jewish foods from around the world, enhanced by ingredients grown in Israel and local culinary influences. The one element connecting them all, their Jewish heritage.

Join us for 5 unique tasting experiences of worldwide cuisine, all in one market.
